Embracing the 1980s – Part 19,234

My hairdo isn’t really the only part of me living in the 1980s, I’ll confess; my wardrobe takes the occasional jaunt back to that era, and not only am I partial to a serious shoulderpad or two, but I love bright, Ab Fab ensembles. Exhibit A:

I knew I was going to be having my photo taken at work – in my role as The Irish Times‘ top model (no, not really) – so I wanted to go for a bright colour. Everybody looks better in colour. Take a look at today’s paper to see if you agree; I’m not sure if the end result might have been a little bit too Patsy and Eddy for my liking. In any case, I was kind of inspired by a discussion I had with Blanaid, who told me she never wakes up and doesn’t know what to wear, so I picked out my outfit the night before and laid it out. Of course, when I woke up, it was a massive exercise in willpower not to change my mind and pick something else altogether, but I was happy with the end result. Details and another pic (sans the jacket – ooh la la!) after the jump.

Dress (altered) from Oxfam (see yesterday’s post for details about how great the one on George’s St is), denim leggings from Topshop, purple pumps from Penneys, black coat from Zara, vintage-look belt from Asos, beige cardigan from Penneys, purple circle scarf from American Apparel, gold Stephanie bag from Diane von Furstenberg.

Quick notes? That scarf is close to being the best item I ever purchased. I wear it everywhere, with everything; it’s warm, it’s versatile and it’s so cosy. Plus, it doubles as a blanket on those sitting-outside-before-dusk outings. The bag? Well, I have no words (but I’ll try anyway). That is quite possibly my favourite thing in the world. It’s huge, it’s heavy, it’s bulky, I can never find anything, but it’s knitted leather, it’s gold, brown, beige, depending on the light, and I can fit everything – and somebody else’s everything – in it.

The evening an outing with Lenny to Café Bar Deli (having been delayed in work and missing the Santa Rita Local Heroes event, which I’m sure was great and am very sorry I missed). After CBD, we went to Carluccio’s where I had a delicious San Pellegrino and LL had one of the strongest coffees in Dublin. I’m not sure he was so enamoured but I would highly recommend it. Strong coffee? My catnip.

I wish I was that organised that I knew what I was wearing the night before, I usually change my outfit at least 3 times before I have to run because I’m late! :)

    Hi rosemary,
    What a cute dress!
About your comment, that’s absolutely no problem :)
The problem I have is about people using my pictures and claiming it is them, or pretenden they are me.
    x!

Hi Yara, thanks, I love it but I definitely had it altered a little too short! I love your site, I wish I could get away with pretending to be you but I think my friends and family might notice… x

Missmilki, I try but most of the time I end up throwing things around for AGES, getting really stroppy and eventually wearing something I hate by around 11am! So I’m not that organised, it’s an aspirational thing.

I love the outfit. I’m in love with the scarf, wish I could buy it but my dislike of American apparel’s portrayal of women in their advertisements wouldn’t allow me to do that!
