Reality bites

I decided to start the whole personal style blogging malarkey a few months ago, having realised that there are very few Irish ladies doing it and, well, that I obviously think I’m uber-stylish and amazing*. And the longer I’ve been doing it, the more people I’ve found who are doing the same thing, only much, much better than I am.

This is Alexandra Spencer. That’s basically all I have to say on the topic, before shuffling back into my Uggs and onto the couch to mope.

* This isn’t true but there is no valid, clear explanation of why I choose to photograph myself online. I guess I’m interested in sharing style, in the same way some people share photography, or music. I’m not that into either of those, or at least not enough to have a decent amount to say about them, but I do love fashion.

    If that’s uber-stylish I’ll eat her hat. That is an ‘orrific hat! Listen to me style is about a personal take on fashion and fashion is not designed with us off-size ladies in mind. Therefore one has to be a lot more stylish than these skinny clothes horses who can just pick any old thing up and drape it off their emaciated shoulders.

    Style is about individuality.

    And technical note: that’s a remote control in her hand so she doesn’t need her enormous cousin to feel like a spanner taking photos of her posing :)

    I totally know what you mean, I’m in the exact same boat as you having just started posting what I wear posts too. What I will defend us both with is the fact that;

    A. alot of these bloggers are models of some description,
    B. have been doing it for yonks and
    C. probably get sponsored by amazing independent boutiques in NYC to wear such amazing clothes!

    I love seeing what Alexandra Spencer is wearing, but honestly I love seeing what you are wearing just as much. XX

    enormous, I know, I must get myself a remote control for my camera. Life would be much easier then. I get what you mean about personal style, but what I mean is, fashionwise, she is always going to look better in clothes than I do. That’s just a fact of life, or at least one that I very strongly believe in.

    Whisty, thanks! I gather she only became a model from her blog though, at least I think so – she’s only 5ft 7, so chances are she wouldn’t have made it otherwise…

    “fashionwise, she is always going to look better in clothes than I do” Nonsense! She would never do a muu muu justice like you would LOL. Seriously though fashion is fleeting and already some magazines and designers and more importantly retailers are seeking alternative looking models. Also as this type of blog becomes more prevalent and influential designers and clothes retailers will have to sit up and take notice.

    Rosemary, I love your outfit posts! Stay doing them or I’ll stop too in protest, and then what will I do with my time? Hound you on your website, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll just leave comment after rambling comment until’ you start again, I’ll talk about the post, then the weather, then what I had for lunch, then my current dental plan, then how my car get’s so messy, then pygmies, then what was on the telly, then obscure films from the 1940′s (I’d have to google that particular subject, and maybe the pygmies one too)…Yes…comment after comment of my mindless wanderings, until you give in.

    Don’t make me do it.

    Ha, I really don’t want that! Thanks Blanaid, I’m not really thinking about stopping them though cos of ‘n’ how I love looking at meself, but I just lament my photogenic-ness (or lack thereof) and lack of Acne in my wardrobe!
