Winter warmer
So the weather in Ireland has been nigh on apocalyptic for the past few days. Torrential rain, ferocious gusts. . . we’ve really been getting the brunt of whatever low pressure horror is passing overhead. Yesterday and the day before, I risked life and limb to get to work (people really cannot drive in the rain), and got fairly soaked along the way. So dressing fashionably hasn’t been my first priority. Well, maybe it ties with my desire to dress comfortably, cosily, and the necessity to wear boots.

I’d like to state, for the record, that I don’t always look that shiny. That’s me after a long day at work, and realising that my hair looks kind of odd, like I have a yellow hair extension stuck on the front of my head. I must go into the hairdresser and have the stripiness toned down a little. But anyway, this is it: staying warm and dry in Ireland. Because kids, it ain’t easy. Pics and deets:

Yep – cosy, grey, a little dismal, but I did try to liven it up with the fancy paisley scarf, a barely-seen coloured belt and, of course, my hair. I look quite mixed in that photograph, style-wise, but that’s what I love about fashion: I’m doing an oversized chunky knit, a classic mac and a businesslike handbag, and I think it all works. Or at least, it did in the daylight – I apologise for the shoddy quality of the photographs, because I really don’t feel they convey the wondrous nature of the outfit at all! Ha!
Anyway the dress is an oversized chunky wool dress I got in Vero Moda – people at work seemed almost mesmerised by the way you can poke your fingers through the wool.

The boots are another relatively recent buy, from Topshop, and I wasn’t quite sure about them when they arrived, fresh off the plane; the chains were a little too gothy and they were a little tight, but a few necessary rain wears later and they’re shaping up nicely. I may remove the back stirrups and just put them on when I feel like it, as I think the boots would be little more versatile then.

And the particulars? Oversized chunky wool dress from Vero Moda; high-waisted leggings from American Apparel; camel mac from Penneys (about two years ago and it totally needs to be replaced), paisley print scarf from H&M, black boots from Topshop, coloured belt swapped with my friend Ellen for I can’t remember what, black handbag from Topshop.
Oh! And the Topshop sale started yesterday (get on over there) and I took the opportunity to purchase these same boots in brown. Well, you could say opportunity, but they weren’t actually in the sale. Typical.
