You’ve got mail, you’ve got mail, you’ve got mail. . .

I once tried unsubscribing from every e-mail list I was on. It was a harrowing time, during which I was attempting to give up shopping, and I found that getting e-mails once a week from Topshop or Asos was hampering my non-shopping. In the end, of course, I just threw in the towel, bored of my own clothes, tired of attempting to avoid the shops and seeking something to do with my lunchbreak. Had I known then what I know now (that our lunchbreaks would soon be cut to a half hour and that I would no longer have time to shop), I might not have bothered.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Topshop, the topics of which were: sparkly knits, wintery layering and something else I didn’t pay attention to that I think pertained to fancy nightwear, the purposes of which I have never understood, beyond, of course, the obvious – in which case, there are places you can go for way cheaper nightwear than Topshop. But then I spied this amazing piece of design.

CheckSkirtIt’s a viscose skirt (I know, I know, one should opt for cotton) with a painted check pattern. I’ve always been a fan of painting on clothing – and this skirt has echoes of vintage Westwood mixed with a newer, Luella-ish vibe. I think I may need it. I’m imagining it with thick, black tights, my black buckle boots (which are languishing in the garage having suffered horribly at Electric Picnic, but will be back in action soon, soon) and the sloppy grey jumper I wore earlier on. Failing that, I have an amazing checked dress that I could tuck in and have clashing check patterns. Clashing patterns might be my favourite new trend.

The skirt (available here) is £35 on the Topshop website, meaning it probably costs around €120 in Dublin and may already be sold out. The problem is, having splurged last month on items from both Topshop and Asos (a pair of amazing green booties that will have their freshman outing this weekend), I promised myself I wouldn’t shop this month. And I do so hate letting myself down. [But OMG! Just realised this skirt will be amazing with said booties! And with my brown wedges and socks... post on socks soon. Socks are the new black.]

Oh and word up: later on I’m heading to Milano for two-for-€15 pizza with E. Afterwards we’re going to go and see Heath Ledger’s last work, and discuss how Lily Cole is really better off sticking to the modelling. We’re a jealous duo, so we are.
