Her name was New York, New York – and she took his heart away

So, as you’ll know, because I haven’t stopped going on about it, I’m in New York for the week – staying in Brooklyn, watching movies, seeing sights, hanging out with the sister, her fella and their adorable dog. Today I’m going to go see Precious, go get my tan on, and have dinner with Bea and her design partner, Julie. Tomorrow it’s a day off, so I might go do some real work, researching some pieces I hope to get done while I’m here, and on Wednesday we’re having a girls’ night out, before Thanksgiving on Thursday! Lovely, relaxing times.

My blogging will be sporadic – right now I’m mooching wireless from somewhere, but now I’m out for the afternoon and tomorrow I may also be out of commission, but there are some things that I would check out, were I in Dublin at the moment:

The White Ribbon, by Michael Haneke. It’s showing in the Light House Cinema and in the IFI, and looks well worth the trip.

Stones in his Pockets at the Civic Theatre in Tallaght. Mammy and Daddy Mac Cabe paid a visit the other night and it comes highly recommended – two men playing multiple characters. I think Mother used the word “amazing” at one point.

Go check out La Cuvee wine bar in Mayor Square by the IFSC. I went a few weeks ago for the opening, and it was lovely – I’ll definitely be heading back when I return to our fair isle.

Oh do your Christmas shopping! Online! I know it’s very early, but there are really some amazing things to be had if you spend a day scouting around the internet – iwantoneofthose.com, firebox.com for gadgets, bookdepository.co.uk for books, topshop.com and asos.co.uk for clothing (not to mention theoutnet.com if you’re feeling generous-ish) . . . with Google and a credit card, there’s no end to what can be achieved.

Apologies for lack of linkage, am in a rush to shower and cinema and, and, and . . . this is an Apple, and I just don’t get ‘em! Plus the inverted commas are in the wrong place, as is the @ sign and there are neither euro nor pound signs, maybe because the Americans only care ’bout the dollah, bruthah.

I’m afraid outfit posts – and review of Precious – will have to wait for Monday afternoon when I get my laptop and a few spare minutes! Purchases to report too, but of course.
