Inanimate love
This is what I’m feeling for this dress that I just purchased from Topshop. I was there for another purpose entirely – to double-check the price of an item for work – and ooh la la this gúna just shot out at me, begging to be purchased. And who am I to turn down a request such as that? No one, that’s who! Swoooon. Now there’s the long wait for delivery, which will be agonising . . . Still, it will be worth it. I’m thinking of it for New Year’s eve, whatever that ends up being, or for Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day, or my birthday, or, or, or . . . I may never take it off.

Oh I should’ve said, it’s £150 plus £5 delivery so works out at in or around €170. So yes, very expensive, but gorgeous and probably €220 to buy in the store!

did you get to try it on. Now your only dilemma is what new shoes to buy with it! It would be fab toned down with a nice blazer or something over it too – tres jealous!

ah no trying on unfortunately, but I’ll return if it it doesn’t fit. Am thinking very black tights and black shoes, or boots – or dressing it down with flats and a blazer or a grey jersey blazer… I’ll have to see wharrit looks like in the real life!

Wow, Rosemary, that is lovely…
I get quite a thrill from buying stuff on Topshop.co.uk. Even though you know you bought it yourself, I prefer to pretend the postman bought it for me and it’s some lovely surprise I wasn’t expecting. Sad I know.

I know exactly what you mean – and as you can’t pay by Laser, there is always that month where, to all intents and purposes, the items are free! It’s just that you’ve stolen the money from your future self. Still, nothing beats a good old-fashioned parcel! I wish they wrapped them in brown paper though…

I like that…I am stealing from the far wealthier Blanaid of next month. The one who has succeeded in winning just the local GAA lotto, let alone the Euromillions..
Brown paper, tied with string, and a scented note reading ‘To Blanaid/Rosemary, please enjoy this very free thing, lots of love, Topshop’

Actually, I did once (once!) buy something from net-a-porter and the experience was not altogether unlike that which you describe there. Must. Resist. Net-a-porter. Currently getting carried away on Asos, 25% off partywear…
