Style file – retail therapy

It might sound like a particularly shallow thing to say – and in a way vulgar, because there’s so much talk of cutbacks and paycuts and cut cut cut . . . – but sometimes there’s nothing like a bit of retail therapy, interspersed with “ban on talking about xxxx”, to make you feel a little better, if only temporarily. I’ll be showcasing my haul next week in my New York pics (haven’t worked out the logistics of blogging while in the US, I’m hoping to schedule a load of posts on Monday and Tuesday, when I’m free and wandering around Brooklyn, for the rest of the week) but for now, here’s what I wore for the big shopdown:

Yes, it’s Christmas! And yes, I finally rocked my Christopher Kane for Topshop crocodile dress, having had it lounging in my wardrobe for weeks on end with no sign of my being able to wear it. There was something about the teeth that was just, to put it crudely, a bit too vagina dentata for my liking. But I’ve conquered my Teeth fear and, well, here it is. More pics, and details, after the jump.November 18th 005November 18th 006

You probably know all of these details by now, but in case you don’t, I’ll shoot: black studded boots from Topshop and possibly the most-worn thing in my wardrobe, purple circle scarf from American Apparel, crocodile dress by Christopher Kane from Topshop, beige cardigan from Penneys, black bag from H&M. My thinking behind pairing the purple scarf with the blue / browns in the dress was that I just felt the dress on its own can be that little bit aggressive, and the purple softened it up. However, there’s nothing softening my two-tone hair at this stage, which I have much tired of and will be having altered on Saturday morning in Queen. Hurrah!

It’s not just me, then! I think that Christopher Kane dress is sort of fabulous, but whenever I see it I can’t help thinking “yikes, vagina dentata”. Probably better to wear it knowingly though!

I’m off to NY in a few weeks myself and have been denying myself a shopping binge for aaages in order to splurge over there.
