To tweed, or not to tweed?
Tweed is the fabric that seems to have come around almost every season since fashion graduated from blip on the radar to Important Indicator of Life, at least as far as my consciousness is concerned. Each A/W collection has a selection of tweed to choose from, in various incarnations – from the trusty, classic Chanel suit to structured tweed dresses from the likes of Roland Mouret and Victoria Beckham’s line, playful tweeds at the now-defunct Luella, then filtering down to the high street where tweed can be found on everything from accessories and shoes to party dresses. But the best place, as far as I’m concerned, to find tweed is second hand.

This is the perfect example of the almost perfect tweed. While I have my own personal (possibly very anal) issues with the idea of hacking off the sleeves of a beautiful piece of tailoring, I can’t help but have a soft spot for the softness of this tweed – it really is a fabric that benefits from years of wearing, washing and rewearing. And when it’s softened, battered and only slightly bruised, it looks especially amazing paired with high fashion pieces that really benefit from a bit of dressing down at the hands of this anti-luxe fabric.

So tweed is definitely on my hit list this season. I know it’s into November, and we’re really hitting the cold spells, but I have a serious yearning for a tweed jacket to layer over summery dresses and woollen cardigans, along with thick, knitted tights. YUM!

Don’t worry about tweed in the cold weather. Good tweed is excellent in cold weather – one of it’s best properties is its versatility in this.
Tweed away. I know I will be!

Ooh I like those shoes!
The colour of the bag goes wonderfully with the top and trousers.
Now I have a deffinite weakness for pink tweed!

Totally agree with everything you’re saying here about Tweed. It’s anti-luxe, it looks better the more you wear it and hot damn, Alexa and Alshey-slash-MK look amazing in theirs.
However, eeeek! That Sartorialist pic… no no no no no. I do not like that at all. It’s like a car crash!
