Fashion makes me feel fat
That’s nothing new; fashion shows, especially, use very thin models in order to best show off the clothes. The general public claims to have had enough, but what about those who love fashion? Often, when “larger” models are used (in inverted commas to express the ridiculousness of calling Lara Stone plus-sized, or “curvy”), the fashion media is, if not outraged, slightly indifferent. The sad fact of the matter is, clothes (a lot of the time) don’t look as good on larger figures as they do on thinner figures. It’s not that the women themselves look bad; in fashion, it’s all about the clothes (no surprises there).
So it won’t shock you into submission when I say that fashion magazines, and shows, and editorials (and so on) make me feel fat. They probably make you feel fat, too, no matter what your size. But when Abbey Lee Kershaw faints at Alexander McQueen because her corset is too tight, well, you know there’s something seriously wrong. If you’re not convinced, here’s Ms Kershaw, in the new edition of Muse magazine.

Ew. That’s just a bit too much isn’t it?
I know she’s one of the skinniest on the market at the moment but when one of the industry’s most respected publications publishes a photo which attempts to convey a skeleton on show as ethereally beautiful, it’s time to stop. This photo better have been retouched to the nth degree or else fashion’s fast approaching the ridiculous.
