Style file: the day before the eve

So, it being New Year’s Eve, a little dress-up was appropriate and, as an introduction to my today’s outfit, let me show you who it was inspired by.

Inspire

I have about 50 blogs in my Google Reader, and at any given moment more than 1,000 new items to read, so getting through them all can be overwhelming, and finding things – and people – that stick out are even more rare. So the fact that I always look forward to updates from Idée Geniale (above left) and Delightfully Tacky must be the highest form of flattery. My outfit today was inspired by both of these ladies: lace tights, clashing patterns, skirts and tops . . . although my own spin, I have to say, looks a little more like Ugly Betty than like either of them. Still, I try, mais non?

Leopard print cardigan from Florence & Fred at Tesco; lace tights from Dunnes, flat boots from Topshop, purple satin skirt (seen here with blonder hair) from Marks & Spencer, stripey dress from French Connection, yellow belt from Penneys, earrings from Asos and bangles, who knows?

I’m sure you have noticed two things: number one, my hair is looking sooo flat. Okay, maybe I’m the only one obsessed enough with my own appearance to have noticed that, but I have it roughly tied up because I plan on dying it tonight before I go out. So there’s that. Secondly, my belt is open. I did get a fabulous new remote for my camera for Christmas (thanks, Roseanne!) but having a willing photographer will always beat the tripod, because they can tell you when your belt is open. Uh . . . epic fail on that count. Tripod it is from now on.

Anyway I didn’t retake the photographs because, in a philosophical way, sometimes your belt just comes undone, you know? And you can’t go crying about it so you just get on with things, which is what I’m doing, although those photographs are filling me with rage. It looked MUCH better closed. I’m still having a love-hate relationship with this skirt, although the colour and the leopard and the yellow did all converge to remind me somewhat of the Rodarte for Target collection, on which I cannot get my filthy paws as I am out of the US of A. (Pouts.)

Well now Ms H, I just think you’re in LOVE with me, because I was just reviewing this one and thinking it didn’t look that swell, and I might have to get rid of that skirt! But thanks :D

Nope I disagree, get the short taken up an inch, and perfecto. If I passed you on the street (in an alternate universe where I don’t know you..) I’d think to myself ‘cool outfit’.

    So there.

    ;)
