We have certain traditions in our house at Christmas time. The Terry’s Chocolate Orange is number one. There was a year my Mum (my poor, long-suffering Mum) didn’t get one for us, and there were ructions. And, lest you’re confused, this was about three years ago, when I was in my late twenties. I sulked for hours. Christmas PJs are another massive one, never to be underestimated.
There’s something so festive to me about getting into your new PJs on Christmas Eve, knowing that, when you wake up, Santa will be there! And, while I rarely wear pyjamas the rest of the time – it’s good to let your skin breathe, you know, especially for women whose groins rarely get aired, for want of a better word – at Christmas, we stay in our PJs until around 1pm, so it’s essentially that they’re halfway decent.
When I was younger (back in the 18th century, obviously) Christmas PJs had to be fleecy and, well, Christmassy – because not only did they have to keep you warm, but the very design of them had to be festive. Nowadays? My parents have become incredibly flaithulach with the central heating, and we can go for shorts – plus, I like to buy Christmas PJs that I can wear all year ’round. Cos I’m so goddamn practical!
Here are just a few of my faves* – once I finally decide on mine, I’ll share on Instagram (if I can get a nice pic, that is!) so keep an eye out.
