By any chance did the petrol station incident happen in a place on the Naas Road (N7?)? It just reminded me of a similar incident I had at one there with an Indian guy who was basically all but wolf whistling at my ‘nice car’ (I was driving my brother’s 8 year old Golf at the time). It was just really odd!:-/

The idea that renting is dead money is nonsense, as the sums below show:

Spend €300,000 on a house, of which €270,000 is borrowed. Assume a low interest rate of 2.6% per annum. Annual interest to the bank works out at more than equivalent rent for a similarly priced house, and that’s even with record low interest rates (needless to say, they would not stay low for the duration of a 25-year mortgage).

Cheer up, and count yourself lucky that you did not buy in 2006. If your parents and yourself can’t go on living together, rent – and stop telling yourself it’s wasted money.
